EGF actions in Greece

In Greece,  the Managing Authority for the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund is the ESF Actions Co-ordination and Monitoring Authority (EYSEKT) of Ministry of Labour, Social Security and Welfare (according to the Joint Ministerial Decision “System for Management, Evaluation, Monitoring and Audit – Implementation Procedure of Actions co funded by the European Globalisation  Adjustment Fund (EGF)” (Government Gazette No 692/B/21.05.2010).

As part of its role, EYSEKT has submitted several applications to the European Commission in order to support redundant workers of the following companies / industries:

 

- ALDI HELLAS

In 10.05.2011, EYSEKT, in cooperation with the Services of the Ministry of Finance, Competitiveness and Maritime, submitted an application to the European Committee for funding by EGF in order to support 642 redundant workers of the ALDI HELLAS company (a supermarket chain), with a total budget amounting at 4.490.000€.

In 22.09.2011, the funding request was approved by the European Committee and the case was forwarded to the European Parliament and the European Council. In 8.11.2011 and 16.11.2011 the approvals by European Council and European Parliament took place respectively.

In a next phase, EYSEKT established a Beneficiary organization (Institute of Labour of Greek General Confederation of Labour) through an open call, to implement the approved Activities. The project started in April of 2012 and came to an end in June 2013. - NUTRIART (KATSELIS)

Greece was the first country to submit an application to the European Commission under the new Regulation of EGF (Regulation 1309/2013). The application was  submitted on 02.07.2014 and concerned 508 redundant workers of Nutriart - Katselis as well as 505 NEETs (Young people not in employment, education, training), according to the provisions of the new Regulation. The budget amounts to 10.160.000€.

The proposal was approved by the European Commission on 25.06.2014 and was subsequently forwarded for approval to the European Parliament and the European Council. On 17.09.2014 the request was approved by the European Parliament.

On 16.12.2014 EYSEKT published an open call for defining the Beneficiary body that will implement the approved activities.

 

- SPRIDER STORES

The funding request was submitted on 06.06.2014 and concerned 761 redundant workers of SPRIDER as well as 550 NEETs. The budget amounts to 12.151.500€.

The proposal was approved by the European Commission on 07.10.2014 and was  subsequently forwarded for approval to the European Parliament and the European Council. On 26.11.2014 the request was approved by the European Parliament.

On 23.12.2014 EYSEKT published an open call for defining the Beneficiary body that will implement the approved activities.

 

- ODYSSEUS FOKAS

The funding request was submitted on 29.07.2014 and concerned 600 redundant workers of the company ODYSSEUS FOKAS as well as 500 NEETs. The budget amounts to 10.740.000€.

The proposal was approved by the European Commission on 11.11.2014 and the case was forwarded to the European Parliament and the European Council, for approval.

On 12.3.2015 EYSEKT published an open call for defining the Beneficiary body that will implement the approved activities.

 

- MASS MEDIA

On 02.09.2014 EYSEKT submitted two new applications related to the Mass Media sector and more specifically: one for publishing companies (newspapers, magazines, etc.) and one for TV production companies (channels, production companies). The applications cover a total of 1633 redundant workers, with a budget of 14.444.500€. The case is currently under an evaluation process.
