Support of ALDI HELLAS redundant workers by the EGF

In 10.05.2011, EYSEKT, in cooperation with the Services of the Ministry of Finance, Competitiveness and Maritime, submitted an application to the European Committee for funding by EGF in order to support 642 redundant workers of the ALDI HELLAS company (a supermarket chain), with a total budget amounting at 4.490.000€.

In 22.09.2011, the funding request was approved by the European Committee and the case was forwarded to the European Parliament and the European Council. In 8.11.2011 and 16.11.2011 the approvals by European Council and European Parliament took place respectively.

In a next phase, EYSEKT established a Beneficiary organization (Institute of Labour of Greek General Confederation of Labour) through an open call, to implement the approved Activities. The project started in April of 2012 and came to an end in June 2013. The below described Activities were implemented reaching a final cost of almost 3 million euros with the participation of - finally - 464 persons.

Activity A. Occupational guidance and job-search assistance
464 persons were supported by receiving counseling services at the departments of the Beneficiary in 23 cities of Greece. They also received an allowance for their participation. Furthermore, in the framework of the current Activity, 20 business plans were conducted to support the businesses funded for their establishment by another Activity of the Project (Activity C).

Activity B. Training and re-training and allowances
In the context of this Activity, 315 persons participated in Continuous Vocational Training programs to acquire basic knowledge and advanced skills at the following thematic objectives, receiving also a training allowance:

  • PC use
  • Logistics
  • Marketing and Sales

At the same time, 40 participants were able to attent specialized training/educational programs, acquiring knowledge and skills at objectives like specialized computer packages (Microsoft SQL Server 2008, Microsoft Visual Studio 2010, etc), Project Management, handicraft in jewelry, etc.

Activity C. Promotion of Entrepreneurship
In the framework of the current Activity, 21 persons were financed in order to create and operate 20 businesses (one was established as a result of the collaboration of two persons), at the following fields:

  • Jewelries
  •  Groceries
  • Bakeries
  • Cosmetics
  • Food and beverages
  • Typing services, etc

Activity D. Job-search allowances
365 beneficiaries were financially supported at their attempt to find a new job.
