Eurobarometer survey shows Social Europe is a top priority for large majority of EU citizens

In the run-up to the adoption of the European Pillar of Social Rights Action Plan, the European Commission has released a new Eurobarometer survey on social issues.

 

The survey reveals that nine in ten Europeans (88%) consider a social Europe to be important to them personally.

 

The most pressing issues for them are equal opportunities and access to the labour market, fair working conditions, and access to quality health care. At the same time, 71% of respondents see a lack of social rights as a serious problem, while 62% believe there will be a more social Europe in 2030.

 

Finally, some 76% of those respondents who have heard about the European Pillar of Social Rights, acknowledge that its success will depend on Member States’ actions to turn social rights into reality.

 

The European Pillar of Social Rights, adopted in 2017, sets out 20 key rights and principles for a strong Social Europe. The Action Plan will contribute to a fair, inclusive and resilient recovery from the pandemic and to a strong social ambition for the long-term.
